In July 2023, we embarked on our most ambitious vacation as a family. We spent about 20 days to drive to California and back, visiting numerous National Parks and interesting places along the way. We saw so much beauty of this country and we ate so many great food. It was an unbeatable experience and something we will definitely do again in the future.
We drove through 17 states, from Maryland, to Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Virginia and back to Maryland. This was about 7700 miles round trip with our 2019 Tesla Model 3.
Some people asked if driving an electric car made the trip longer. I would say no because most, if not all, of our charging stops were at the same time we needed a break. Our charging stops average to about 30 minutes each, enough time for us to hit the restroom, stretch and for Anna to watch her Disney shows. Technically we could charge more often and reduce each stops to about 10min but we needed the break. I’d imagine if we were to drive a gas car, we would spend the same amount of time on each stop and ended up spending more money on gas.
I have organized our photos to daily posts as seen below. I encourage you to check them out. I think the most beautiful ones are while we were in Utah, especially Bryce Canyon National Park. This was definitely one of the best vacations we have had so far, and we’re looking forward to do more.
